Journalism with an anthropology bent

“Academic study lends rigour and structure to journalistic research. By dabbling in both, I would like to deepen my practice of my chosen profession.”

NYU: CITY FOOD WORKSHOP

In 2018, I was invited to present a paper at the City Food workshop conducted by New York University’s Food Studies department. The paper was on Ammachis, a chain of low-cost canteens in northern Sri Lanka run by war-affected women. You can hear and read more about my paper here.

I also presented a paper on the Ammachi canteens at the Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery in 2019; I was recognised as one of the five best speakers that year. Chaat was the subject of my paper at the Oxford symposium in 2021; you can read the paper here.
